Content creation

Text creation is closely related to translation. Within website translation, for example, translating promotional material and product descriptions may require rewriting entirely the texts so that they are as powerful in the new language and are appealing for the audience of the new culture in which they are inserted. Creativity is key in this type of translation, better known in our sector as Transcreation.

Transcreation

Transcreation is the creative transformation of a text in another language so that it can evoke a similar effect in the target reader to the one it evokes in its original language. The term is used a lot in marketing and in artistic and literary translation. Imagine a story written entirely with one-syllable words. What a display of creativity, right? If writing a piece like this is already an impressive creative exercise, imagine translating it… That’s a huge challenge… One of the biggest I have faced. Do you keep the format? Do you keep the content? What do you sacrifice in the translation? However, as there is nothing better than seeing an example, you can see my resolution to the problem in my blog post Una de creativitat.

Content creation

Text creation is one of your main duties when you work within an editorial team, as it was my case during the two years I worked for the German company Statista. Apart from the translation tasks, part of my work in Statista was devoted to the creation of content in Spanish and English. I was responsible for all sectors of FMCG or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (fashion, cosmetics, decoration, food, trade, household equipment, toys, pets …) and my job was to gather and share the latest figures and outline the development of those markets throughout the years, as well as writing dossiers that would engage readers.

Literary writing

It is not uncommon for translators to dabble in writing themselves, and that applies to me as well. As a passionate linguist, writing is one of my most treasured hobbies. Perhaps, I may one day be able to spend more time cultivating this passion. For now, I settle with unleashing my imagination from time to time. What I like the most is writing short stories that usually just end up lost in a drawer or an external disk. In recent years, I decided to send some pieces to literary contests and, modesty aside, I’ve been blessed with some small awards, so I may not be too bad at it. 😉
